MEET: Indre Anskaityte

Application broadcast:

When you help others, you help yourself

This radio story concerns the fight against poverty and social exclusion, which is one of the priorities of the EU Development Policy. The story focuses on the contribution of Lithuania, as a member state of the EU. The facts about Lithuania’s financial support are presented, along with the countries under its care and the nature of assistance. Petras Auštrevičius, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on European Affairs of the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament) and President of the European Club, and a representative from the non-governmental organisation “Savanorių centras” (Volunteer Centre) offer their help in exploring the topic. According to Mr. Auštrevičius, by supporting countries in need, Lithuania not only carries out a noble mission, but also creates a positive image of the country. Jurgita Margau, an NGO project coordinator, stresses that Lithuanian people who take care of the children from the Ghor Province (Afghanistan) get to know this faraway country and its culture better, thus enriching themselves.
