Application article:

A importância de 20 euros e de carinho na vida de uma criança africana

English summary: In a country plagued with AIDS and malnutrition, many orphans and others whose families do not have the necessary resources to grant them education and satisfy their basic needs strive to survive in Mozambique. Ataca’s raison d’être is to provide for those children. This article dwells on this non-governmental institution, established and based in Porto, Portugal, that offers financial help to more than 200 African children. Ataca’s system consists of a tutoring programme in which each child gets up to 20 euros per month to pay for their education, health and clothing expenditures. In return, tutors keep a record of the childrens’ development and academic performance based on regular reports collected by Portuguese volunteer workers in Mozambique.
